“Of all the forces of nature, I should think the wind contains the largest amount of motive power — that is, power to move things…. As yet, the wind is an untamed, and unharnessed force; and quite possibly one of the greatest discoveries hereafter to be made, will be the taming, and harnessing of the wind.”
–Abraham Lincoln, speech, Lecture on Discoveries and Inventions, 1858
Wind Energy is “the fastest growing source of power on the planet,” according to the Sierra Club. To help get WV citizen’s prepared for the “GREEN” industry,Eastern WV Community and Technical College is offering a “Wind Energy Technology Training program”
The college also offers Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree, a Certificate of Proficiency and a Skill Set program in Wind Energy Turbine Technology. The program is now in place and open for enrollment.
Eastern is designing its program to comply with American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) certification standards; and is drawing on the work of existing Wind Energy Technology programs with track records of success in the western part of the nation — a region that, until now, has taken a lead in Wind Tech training.
The Wind Energy Turbine Technology (WETT) program provides a technical education at the certificate level. This broad-based curriculum provides instruction and practical application of a variety of technical concepts and practices, including industry-recognized maintenance practices in electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
This would also allow many of our Miner’s in WV to work in green industries jobs. Most of all this provides our children with clean, safe, high paying jobs in WV. Our children can grow up,go to college and work in WV.
A wind project in the Elkins area of WV will generate $500,000 in tax revenue and employee 150 worker’s. This is great news for WV finally some JOBS! Great for our economy, our people most of all it does no damage to the environment, which saves our beautiful Mountain state.
I would like to thank Eastern WV Community & Technical College for offering these classes.
