5.8 Earthquake in Virginia, Impact Felt in West Virginia

A 5.8 earthquake struck central Virginia today and was felt as far as Ottawa, Canada. To the south reports are coming in that it was felt in Georgia. While West Virginia felt a good blow from the shock waves there hasn’t been any reports of any severe damage in West Virginia. At our home in Nicholas County, we felt a mild display of this earthquake’s strength. In Charleston, WV at the Capital High School it was reported from a student that all the students desks trembled and the school building shook.

It would be easy to say that more than 10 Million people felt the effects of this earthquake. Hopefully, there was no serious injures associated with it. Shortly after the 5.8 earthquake hit a 2.8 aftershock also was felt by people near the Richmond, Virginia area. This makes one wonder if a larger earthquake would hit how many people would be directly affected.
